Spiderweb Cardigan

I must start this post off by saying how much I love Interweave Crochet magazine. The designs are contemporary and beautiful, and I love how they write the pattern instructions. I'm not a "normal" sized person, and because of how well the patterns are written, I have a much easier time adjusting things to fit me.

On to the post at hand. When I saw the Spiderweb Cardigan pattern designed by Marty Miller in the Spring 2007 issue if Interweave Crochet, I just had to make one for myself. I love how it turned out.

The pattern had a great flow to it, and I found it worked up quite quickly. I also loved that it started off using a technique they termed "foundation double crochet" rather than a starting chain, a technique I plan to adapt into other patterns wherever I can. It makes the foundation row look exactly like any other dc row, and whereas with a foundation chain, I usually have to use a larger hook than in the rest of my work to prevent warping, With this technique, I didn't need to worry about it.

Overall, I would highly recommend this pattern. It looks great, and was fun to make.

The cardigan is gorgeous. I'm dying to get my hands on a copy of the mag. I'll have to go out to the bookstore this weekend. Such lovely pieces in it I've heard!

Ok, I know nothing about crocheting, but that looks nice. :)

Thanks for stopping by and posting a comment on my site. I think we've got Mrs. Diesel convinced....

Wow!! It looks fabulous. Now I'm even more motivated to make one for myself. :)
Gorgeous. I'd want one myself, except it might tend to re-enforce those hallucinations I keep having about spiders crawling on me.

Curse you, drugs!!

Hi there!

I just came across your blog via google, as I'm about to start crocheting this cardigan and I wanted to see how others did theirs. I love yours! The colour looks great on you!

I'm so glad you are happy with how my Spiderweb Sweater worked up! I love seeing other people wear my designs! And your sweater looks great! But don't stop at just one! :-)
What yarn did you use?

Hi Marty!

I am so honored that you like how I made your design. This one I made using Bernat simply soft, as I wanted something that would hold up to washing.

My wish list includes making another one in a sport or fingering weight yarn for spring/summer.
